After recent construction resulted in the elimination of a large number of parking spaces, Winston-Salem State University knew that they needed more space. In a three tiered construction project a new access road, 160-space lots, and bus shelter were added.
The only problem? The new lots were across a railroad track. A Big R Bridge 125 foot vehicular truss completed the new North Entry for the Lowery Street buildings. It’s 36 foot width allow for two full traffic lanes and eight foot sidewalks catering to vehicles and pedestrians alike. The weathering steel structure maintains a historic look and is a low maintenance finish.
The general contractor was Smith-Rowe, INC out of Mt. Airy, North Carolina.
