After recent construction resulted in the elimination of a large number of parking spaces, Winston-Salem State University knew that they needed more space. This led to a three-phased construction project that added an access road, a 160-space parking lot and a bus shelter.
The solution? A Big R Bridge 125′ Vehicular Truss Bridge completed the new North Entry for the Lowery Street buildings. It’s 36′ width allows for two full traffic lanes and eight foot sidewalks, catering to vehicles and pedestrians alike.
Weathering steel finish brings savings
The weathering steel structure maintains a historic look and has a low-maintenance finish that brings a cost savings of 10% or more, initially, and even more over the life of the structure.
The general contractor was Smith-Rowe, INC out of Mt. Airy, North Carolina.
