Big R Bridge customers know we can provide specialized solutions for their infrastructure needs. That’s why Kiewit Pacific Company chose us to design and manufacture a pipeline bridge responsible for carrying Folsom, California’s water supply from Lake Folsom to the city.
The Natoma Pipeline Bridge was part of Phase II of a 7–10 year project by the Bureau of Reclamation to rehabilitate Folsom Dam and its corresponding outlet works.
The Bureau of Reclamation hired Kiewit Pacific Company to complete the project. They determined the water could be rerouted to the city, across the new spillway, by way of a custom-built bridge. Kiewit selected Big R Bridge to design, fabricate and deliver an H-Section truss bridge to carry the 48″ diameter water line.
It was essential the bridge be constructed quickly to avoid prolonged water outages. Because, Big R’s Prefabricated Bridges are easy to assemble, lightweight and custom-designed, the people of Folsom experienced only 24 hours of water interruption.
To cap off the project, Folsom opted to reconstruct the auxiliary spillway at the end of the pipeline. The remodel now provides enhanced flood control protection and dam safety measures for surrounding communities.
