North Dakota’s oil boom is taking off but, with no pipeline in the area, large infrastructure developments are needed “yesterday” to get the crude to the refineries and markets. And, the COLT Hub is no exception.
As the largest Crude Oil Loading Terminal in the State, it was designed to aggregate and distribute over 120,000 barrels a day to multiple downstream markets through unit train loading. The Terminal’s double-loop track layout called for a rail-over grade separation to access the interior of the site.
Known for our ability to fast track design, fabrication and installation processes, Big R Bridge was contracted to design and supply a Super•Cor Arch with Vist-A-Wall MSE headwalls and wing walls.
Super•Cor: Accelerated schedule and reduced cost
Working with the consultant and the contractor, we streamlined the approval process so initial fabrication could begin earlier than normal. Our engineered solution met the accelerated construction schedule, reduced the cost and installed without interrupting the track installation.
Super•Cor’s strength handles multiple E80 rail traffic
Super•Cor’s strong corrugation profile could handle the heavy loadings of multiple lanes of E-80 rail traffic and deliver the additional benefits of a 40′ clear span and only 33″ of cover. In fact, the bridge’s generous clearance box came in handy when construction crews needed to transport a large mechanical tower through it.
