When Potlatch Corporation, needed to replace an aging, under-sized culvert on Snake Creek Road near Headquarters, ID, they opted for a Prefabricated Bridge and Abutments Package from Big R Bridge. Both the Modular Vehicular Bridge and the Vist-A-Wall MSE Structural Wall Abutments offered impressive benefits for the application:
- Easy to ship and install with local crews
- No need for concrete
- Able to use native backfill materials
- Handles settlement well
- Open-flow fish passage design
Forestry bridges are a big part of our DNA
Big R has been building forestry bridges since the 1970s, with hundreds of them installed throughout the US, including many in Alaska. Our prowess in forestry crossings quickly had our bridges popping up on other resource roads in the oil and gas, mining and agriculture sectors.
Vist-A-Wall MSE Structural Wall System
Our Vist-A-Wall (Wire Wall) System was perfect for this remote location, as the components are easy to ship and install without the need for concrete. It also handles settlement well and, most often, locally-available material can be used for the engineered backfill.
Wider bridge deck with U80 loading
Designed and engineered by our in-house team, this 60′ span was requested with a 28′ deck width to allow better room for two large logging trucks to pass. The heavy-duty, U80 loading bridge was delivered in three sections.
The Snake Creek Bridge Installation Project was carried out in partnership with The Clearwater Soil and Water Conservation District, one of 51 Conservation Districts in Idaho. It was supported by the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality and the EPA Clean Water Act, 319 Grant Program.
