On the west side of Jacksonville, the I-295 Loop crosses the infamous Blanding Boulevard, voted the worst intersection in Northeast Florida (83,000 cars per day) by local newspaper readers. A 4.3-mile widening of the I-295 with collector-distributor roads diverting traffic to a new interchange at nearby Collins Road is expected to assist with relieving the traffic congestion at the I-295 at Blanding Boulevard interchange.
20 walls, 190,650 SF of surface area
The project is a single-source design-build contract with one group responsible for the design and construction. In this case it was the team of Jacobs Engineering and Superior Construction, both of Jacksonville. We’re proud to have been selected to design and supply 190,650 SF of Vist-A-Wall MSE Structural Wall System for 20 separate walls at the Collins Road Interchange.
New walls tied in to existing walls
Walls for this FDOT project had to tie into a competitor’s walls from the City of Jacksonville’s recent Collins Road widening and overpass project. This was made easier by the fact that both companies used 5'x5' precast panels with the same Fractured Fin form liner finish. Widely-used throughout Florida, Fractured Fin’s durable surface is aesthetically appealing and it tends to discourage graffiti. The texture also helps to “blend” concrete’s inherent tonal variations.
Local supplier convenience
To insure timely manufacturing and deliveries, our precast and soil reinforcement components were all manufactured within 15 miles from the project site. The project is ongoing and expected to complete this year.
