Big R Pedestrian Bridge saves time and money

September 6, 2011

Truss Rail BridgeWhen the Utah Department of Transportation needed a 210' pedestrian crossing in Salt Lake City, Big R Bridge came through with a speedy solution.

Four sections install quickly

Working with Wadsworth Brothers Construction, Big R designed, prefabricated and shipped the steel box truss bridge in four sections. The prefabricated sections were installed quickly, greatly reducing the onsite construction time, which was key for this busy multiple track crossing.

Naturally-weathering steel extends savings

A naturally-weathering steel finish was selected to provide long service with very little future maintenance. Weathering steel typically provides initial cost savings of 10 percent or more, and life-cycle cost savings of at least 30 percent over the life of the structure.
