“Paseo” bridge placed in one day

May 9, 2012

paseo(250)“The Paseos” is a 30-mile system of walkways, parks and bridges that interlaces with a network of cul-de-sacs and amenities in the North, Central and South Valley Valencia neighborhoods in the City of Santa Clarita, CA.

As part of a larger upgrade to their Paseo system, the City needed to replace an aging timber pedestrian bridge over busy Alta Madera Drive in South Valencia Valley. Big R is pleased to have been selected to design and supply the replacement bridge, following our recent installation of North Valencia’s pedestrian school crossing on Copper Hill Drive.

Time-lapse installation video featured on City’s blog

Initial engineering concerns around the foundations were quickly resolved and the project proceeded smoothly with the 115' bridge being delivered in two sections and placed in one day! The installation was well documented with photos and a time-lapse on Santa Clarita’s City Briefs blog.

The painted box truss design carried through with the same color scheme as the Copper Hill Drive pedestrian bridge and included wire mesh safety screening and a stay-in-place formwork ready to accept a field-poured concrete deck.

Delivering ahead of schedule = one happy customer

We were also very pleased to have received such a ringing endorsement from the City’s project manager after the project was completed and we are looking forward to future opportunities in the area.

“We are very satisfied with the services and product provided by Big R Bridge to the City. You truly understand scheduling and were able to manufacture and deliver the pedestrian bridge ahead of schedule. As the first timber pedestrian bridge replacement in the City, we were somewhat apprehensive about the construction and aesthetics of the new bridge. However, it has been a successful project and the community is very happy with the end result. We look forward to other replacements in the near future and hope that Big R Bridge continues with the exceptional service provided thus far.”
