A new Big R Pedestrian Bridge was recently installed over Martis Creek, in Truckee, CA, near Lake Tahoe. As part of the latest development phase of the Truckee River Legacy Trail, this bridge design was chosen to harmonize with the adjacent Truckee Ice Company Historical Site (1885-1898).
Naturally-weathering Pratt truss style fits in perfectly
The Pratt truss design is consistent with truss configurations used on metal bridges during that period. As was the naturally-weathering steel finish, which also blended into the setting so as not to detract from visitors’ appreciation of the historical site.
Easy on the environment, easy on the budget
This finish is also easier on the stream’s habitat and owner’s budget as no ongoing sandblasting or painting will be required.
“How fast?” you say…
The 150' bridge was delivered in three sections, which were joined together at the site and set on the abutments the same day. And, while that is fast by any account, it was still not as fast as this time lapse video from local photographer, William Stephenson, seems to show…
