University of North Texas football fans can get across the I-35 to their new Apogee Stadium safer and faster, thanks to a new pedestrian bridge from Big R Bridge. Prior to the new bridge, thousands of fans had to use narrow sidewalks on Denton’s North Texas Boulevard bridge.
The new bridge, shown here in its final stages of construction, is expected to be ready for UNT’s first home game on September 8.
The new H-section pedestrian bridge is 354' long with a 20' wide cast-in-place concrete deck. It features an inverted canopy design reflective of the neighboring stadium. Other features include galvanized welded wire mesh side panels and weathering steel structural members.
The bridge was installed in three sections, with the largest span over the I-35 being installed over a Friday night and Saturday morning in July.
